Canyon Rope Technique

I was supposed to go Tramping with Kay, but a last minute call from Brendon had me backpeddalling and offering to go canyoning.. In the end the weather was looking a bit iffy, so we settled on an afternoon playing around with some new canyon techniques and practising a few old ones.

Of note were the Figure 8 contingency block, Deviations, Knot passing whilst descending and ascending, converting blocks to lowering systems, raising systems and rappelling on 3 ropes that are all too short to reach the bottom… ( a new way of doing Brendons favourite trick..)

MUAC Freshers 08

Despite the windy conditions, well over 100 new MUAC members turned up to jump off Balance Bridge. As usual Alistair from City Rock organised the bridge swinging, whilst MUAC members ran the rest of the activities. I ran an Absiel from the bridge, Jackson and Robyn ran some rock climbing, whilst Leith and Amy looked after the BBQ.

I had about 40 or so newbies on the abseil, including one who got her hair caught in the absiel device. Glad that I’d rigged a releaseable system, I was able to lower her the last few meters to the ground.
