Tui Canyon, Mt Richardson

Grant and I went for a nosey up the Glentui Bush Rd at the base of Mt Richardson in the Canterbury foothills. I'd spied a likely looking waterfall that seemed to have a bit of a canyon beneath it.

Grant rang me up just before lunch whilst I was at work and asked 'Do you want to go canyoning after work?' Well, the sun was shining, the days were long and the canyon couldn't be very big.. 'Why not? See you at Sheffield at 5pm'..

After a grueling 7 min approach along a benched track, we followed the sign to the 'waterfall' then suited up on the neatly provided seat. The first drop was very beautiful and deposited you fully into the steep walled canyon.

I was amazed that the canyon continued downstream in a continuous slot; this was going to be more interesting than I was expecting..

2hrs later we stumbled accross a bridge that was our exit. The 3 min walk back to the car was tough, but worth the effort ;0)

A great little canyon, should prove to be a classic. More info from;
